Now and then: Mogadishu, Tehran, and Kabul

Pictures can tell a 1000 words. Here are three to show just how recent the phenomenon of extremism is in the Middle East

A picture can convey more than a thousand words, the old cliché goes. The startling pictures below, comparing Tehran, Kabul and Mogadhishu now with how they were a few decades earlier, certainly provide food for thought.

They highlight how the conservativism and extremism we see in many Muslim-majority countries are relatively recent phenomena and are not deeply rooted in their history or culture.

I'm sure you will agree the contrast is quite amazing.
