Labour’s Christian Wolmar gains momentum in Mayoral nomination race
Sustainability candidate for London mayor Christian Wolmar wins grassroots support at official campaign event in Borough as Labour supporters seek alternative policies
Christian Wolmar, the Labour candidate who has been successfully shortlisted as a nominee for London Mayor, has gained additional grassroots support against opponents Tessa Jowell and Sadiq Khan at a packed election rally in Borough.
Wolmar, a transport enthusiast and champion of sustainability, told The Commentator that he was thrilled to have reached the nomination shortlist, citing it as a huge moment for his campaign.
Our reporter interviewed him at a campaign rally at the Market Porter pub in Borough, which attracted nearly one hundred supporters who were distributing T-shirts, badges and voter cards as part of the campaign.
The news comes as frontrunner Tessa Jowell came under increasing scrutiny as the establishment candidate who could face a strong challenge from popular Tories such as green guru Zac Goldsmith or Syed Kamall, the popular Conservative MEP.
Kate Baldwin, one of the attendees at Wolmar's campaign event said, "It's great to see candidates like Christian Wolmar bringing fresh ideas to the table about how to improve London."
